Head Start & Early Head Start

RurAL CAP’s Head Start and Early Head Start programs prepare Alaskan children for success in school and in life by enhancing social and cognitive development. While Head Start primarily serves three- and four-year-old children, Early Head Start programs serve infants and toddlers under the age of three. We provide education, health, and other services to children and their families in urban and rural Alaska.

Every child benefits from our educational services and healthcare support. Our lessons encourage various instructions and interactions with others that reinforce social skills, emotional well-being, language understanding, and concept development. All families enrolled in Head Start and Early Head Start receive medical, dental, mental, and social services.

Parents make progress toward their own education, literacy, and employment goals through our programs. Local Parent Committees form at each program site that assist staff with curriculum development, community support, and advice on programmatic and fiscal decisions. Parents help determine the cultural appropriateness and responsiveness of program services.

Our skilled professionals have been working closely with families and communities since 1965. Together, we promote a vision of healthy people, sustainable communities, and vibrant cultures.
