For the past three years, the Rural Alaska Community Action Program (Rural CAP) has hosted a Youth Encouraging Alaskan’s Health (YEAH) Summit. The conference, led by youth volunteers, teaches teenagers how to cultivate leadership, creativity, and self-esteem while addressing tobacco and vaping addiction.
This year’s summit involves four Zoom episodes on April 15, 16, 22, and 23 at 3 p.m. AKST. Each session will be an hour and will feature Shaun Derik (motivational speaker, entertainer, and producer of “The Hard Part”) streaming from New York.
Inspired by the theme Stronger Together, Alaskan youth designed the conference to engage fellow teenagers as they develop advocacy, leadership, and public speaking skills. Participants will have the opportunity to win a variety of prizes including AirPods, gift cards, t-shirts, and more. At the conclusion of the summit, youth will create their own short videos encouraging a tobacco-free life.
